Left-hander Hideki Okajima
failed his physical and as a result his minor league contract with the Yankees is now voided. This ends his very short Yankee career and it would seem to have to be something pretty bad to cancel out a minor league deal. After posting a sterling 2.72 ERA with an outstanding 8.3 K/9 rate and a 2.89 K/BB ratio in 198 games for Boston between 2007-09, he struggled the last two years and spent most of last season in the minors. The 36 year old was the early favorite to win the last bullpen spot, but with Okajima out the competition has opened up and it would be a little surprising if they did not bring in another left-hander to compete for the job.
